The program can be changed according to the individual request of the group.
The club bus will take us to Arkhyz Taulu glade, at an altitude of almost 1.5 kilometers above sea level. Set up the base camp.
Breakfast. Prepare the bicycles and go to the start of the cycling route.
Sofia waterfalls. We will start the route upstream of the Sofia River, overcoming fords, steep rocky mountain roads, scree, and slopes, to Sofiyskaya meadow. The goal of this day is to reach the meadow and walk to the waterfalls, take as many beautiful pictures as possible and return to Taulu before dark.
During the first day, we will ride entirely on a dirty road. Large stones on the way up the Sofia Valley are very familiar to the Greater Caucasus mountains. In places with mudflows, there will be a real struggle for traction - there is both oily clay and wet grass. Sometimes the road makes a bend straight over exposed rocks, highlighting particularly sharp spots with black marks of slipping rubber. Slightly higher, there are also grassy slopes, especially difficult to pass after rain. Sofia waterfalls are one of the most picturesque places in Arkhyz. Powerful streams of water rush from the Sofia glacier and fall into the Sofia River. The height of the fall reaches 90 meters.
Return road to the camp.
We arrive at the Taulu meadow. Dinner. Overnight in tents. Taulu glade is a mecca for tourists visiting Arkhyz. There is also a small market and a cafe with delicious khychins and herbal tea.
We have a hearty breakfast and set off.
Temples of Alanya. We start from the base camp and along the asphalt road winding behind the Bolshoi Zelenchuk river, we go down to the Lower Arkhyz. We will see the ancient Alanian settlement, the oldest Russian Christian churches, and the rock icon of the Face of Christ.
Alanian temples are the oldest churches in Russia. This is just an amazing place with strong energy. Here was one of the largest cities of ancient Alanya. Now there are three ancient Alanian temples built according to the Byzantine type, as well as a number of stone statues. Each of the local churches has its own code name - South, Middle, and North Temple. The largest is the Northern, and the smallest is the Southern. Archaeologists believe that earlier there were at least 14 temples. However, only three of them have survived to our time.
The face of Christ made by nature was discovered in Arkhyz in 1999, although rumors about the icon in the mountains had been circulating for a long time. The image is located at an altitude of about 100 meters in the grotto of the Mitseshta ridge, its dimensions are 180x40 centimeters. The face is painted in three main colors: white, brown, and dark red. It “looks” at the ancient temples of Arkhyz.
We return to the camp, have dinner, getting ready for the return road, loading bicycles and equipment to the bus.
