Croatia is the birthplace of the great physicist Nikola Tesla and the great traveler Marco Polo, the motherland of fountain pens and silk men's ties. Croatia has been professing the most hospitable policy to the tourists for more than a decade. Nowadays, it is one of the most attractive countries in terms of inexpensive but qualitative recreation. The country conditionally consists of two parts: the continental, spreading in the Sava river basin, and the coastal, stretching in a narrow strip along the Adriatic coast. Croatia also owns a large number of islands, with a total number of 1,185 pieces, of which only 67 are inhabited.

Croatia today is a popular tourist destination, one of the best countries in Europe for ecotourism. The reason is the reverent attitude of Croats to their own natural resources: a huge number of national parks and nature protection zones, faultlessly clean sea,the marked with blue flags of Foundation for Environmental Education beaches. Another wealth of the country are 20 mineral springs and one unique deposit of the rarest healing naphtha called naftalan.

The location of Croatia determined the history of the country. From ancient times, it was located at the crossroads of civilizations and cultures. This is reflected in the unique historical, cultural and architectural monuments of cities, founded back in ancient and medieval periods, so interesting for curious tourists. Local cuisine has been also influenced a lot, that is why it differs so much in different regions of the country. Cuisine is less intricate in the mountainous part of Croatia; simple meat dishes (lamb and pork) predominate.

There is primarily Mediterranean cuisine in Istria, a variety of dishes from the freshest seafood. There is more sophisticated cuisine with a predominance of vegetables, herbs and fruits in Dalmatia. The traditional dishes are octopus salad, pork ham “prsut” and lamb with sour milk “visovachka begavica”. High-quality cheeses from the island of Pag can be easily compared with the best French cheeses. Wonderful Croatian wines Malvasia, Teran and Merlot will suit best to the cheese.

Numerous music festivals, exhibitions, sport competitions are held here almost all year round. The local trade fairs are among of the most significant events in the world. Croatia offers to tourists interesting incentive programs, excursions to castles and museums, recreation and trips.

The business tourism infrastructure of Croatia is diverse and offers hotels of different stardom and capacity: from 30 people in small hotels to 850 people in the largest. The tourist cities of Split, Pula, Zadar, Brak and others, which are popular primarily in the field of incentive programs, are marked on the Croatian business tourism map. As for the other aspects of the MICE industry, best of all they are represented in the capital of the country - the city of Zagreb and Dubrovnik, the other centre of business tourism market. But tourism is not the only industry in Croatia. The leading industries are: shipbuilding, engineering, chemical, food, textile, woodworking, electrical, electronic and pharmaceutical industries, agriculture.

Business Information

In the annual Doing Business ranking, which assesses the economic situation, Croatia took the 40th place out of 189, which is pretty good. However, the experts consider it is rather complicated to start business in Croatia. The registration takes place in several stages and lasts almost two weeks. Croatia has established itself as a stable and successfully European country. Investing in the Croatian economy will be a successful contribution on the development of your enterprise in Europe. Real estate prices in Croatia are higher than in other nearby countries. Nevertheless, the rapid development of industry and tourism make the country attractive for creating a company.

A stable and positively progressing economy is the indisputable advantage of Croatia. Here are some of the cleanest beaches in Europe, and the ecological situation is called one of the best, what provides a rapid development of tourism. Croatia is also a major supplier of shipbuilding products, and the manufacturing sector is developed in the capital and industrial cities. All this allows you to invest successfully in economic development and promotion of services. Among the disadvantages are an increased tax rate, constantly rising prices on real estate and the established authorized capital. Although many taxes depend on the field of activity and a particular region. Although, in some cases they can reach 0% tax rate, and the sum of the authorized capital can be paid by piecemeal, it is better to study these issues in detail in advance.

Croatia does not prohibit foreign investors to be founders of the company but the director of the company must be a citizen or resident of the country with the right to work. After the foreign entrepreneur has received the documents and the right to work, he himself can take this position.  Also, most of the employees should be Croats. Despite the rather high unemployment rate in Croatia the labor shortage is very noticeable, moreover in qualified personnel. The reasons  are the seasonality of the tourism sector, where a large part of the able-bodied population is involved, active labor emigration and a strict immigration policy. Croats are very proud of their country, nation and especially the place of birth, considering it the best in the world. That is why they can be intolerant and quick-tempered sometimes, although in general they are boon. Higher education is not typical for the majority of the population, but almost everyone has knowledge of English.  The most profitable investment areas in Croatia are tourism, services and real estate.
